Where it all started...
COSCO was founded in 1935 as the Columbus Specialty Company with the invention of a tin matchbox that dispensed new matches while providing a place for used ones. In 1941, the company began using the Cosco brand name, a contraction of COlumbus Specialty COmpany. As did most factories, Cosco made military equipment during World War II. After the war, Cosco introduced the first full line of all-metal household stools. In 1988, DOREL acquired COSCO, making COSCO a part of Dorel Juvenile. As product lines and DOREL began expanding, COSCO merged into Dorel Home Furnishings, as a sister division to Ameriwood Home, DHP, and Dorel Living. COSCO’s headquarters is still located in Columbus, IN on the same campus as one of the Dorel Juvenile manufacturing facilities.
